A LITTLE STORY OF BELONGING

The Day the Bowl Wouldn't Sing

Early light on the Learning Circle, a ring of smooth stones and cushions at the edge of the Clearing, the sea just visible beyond. Aida alone in the middle, setting her crystal singing bowl down on its cloth, the tall Clearing crystal glowing gently behind her.

Once a year, on the first cool morning, the bears of Crystal Cove have Song Morning. Everybody comes to the Learning Circle. Everybody brings a sound. Sunny brings a shout. Luna brings a hum you can hardly hear.

And Aida opens it. She always has. She runs her paw round the rim of her crystal bowl, and the bowl sings first.

This morning, she got there early. Just to check.
