A LITTLE STORY OF BELONGING

The Dark Bit of the Cave

Low tide at the far end of Crystal Cove Beach. A cave mouth in the rocks, sunlit at the front and going dark further in. Keen standing at the very edge of the light, paws planted, looking in. Beside the cave, Luna crouched at a rock pool with a jar of shells, Keen's latest find in her paw. Wet sand, a calm sea.

When the tide is out, Crystal Cove Beach has a cave at the far end.

Light bit, dark bit, then the Echo Pool, where you can talk to Squeaky.

Keen wanted to go more than anything.

Keen had been about to go for a week.

Luna was in the rock pools. Keen found her shells while he was about to.

"Today," said Keen.

He had said that on Tuesday.
