A LITTLE STORY OF BELONGING

Fuzzby's Enormous Honey Cake

Morning in the Great Crystal Clearing. Fuzzby hovering in front of the big wood-fired oven, one wing raised like he is making a speech to it. Far below, through the trees, a glimpse of golden beach with Keen digging, Luna holding a leaf, Amie peering at it, Misty at the water's edge.

It was Sunny's Bright Day. Fuzzby had sent everybody to the beach. "Stay there. Don't look up."

So Keen dug a hole for no reason. Luna found a leaf. Amie asked it a question. Misty watched the tide.

Up in the Clearing, Fuzzby had a plan.

"This year," he told the oven, "I'm making the cake. By myself. As a surprise."

The oven said nothing. It had never met Fuzzby.
